In an interview by Kermit Pattison titled "Fire Your Relatives. Scare Your Employees. And Stop Whining" published in the New York Times' online Small Business Section yesterday, Mr. Cloutier's advice includes gems like, putting profits above all, always paying yourself first, shocking your laggard employees, and not accepting any excuses.

Mr. Clover calls tradeshows “just a flimsy excuse for a paid vacation.” He considers sweat equity "working for nothing and being a fool.” To him, teamwork is "vastly overrated.” And if you ever apply for a job at American Management Services, don’t mention that you like to play golf.
